I'm becoming more and more interested in using Carpathian Spruce for one of my next builds. Some of you who have used it, what has been your experience. I know sound is a very subjective thing, but how do you feel it compares to Addy, Eng and Sitka, and with what combination of woods, in a dred or OM style guitar. Any comments will be appreciated.Jimmie D38746.3691666667

I don't usually go in for a lot of flowery language about woods.

But with that said I have built a few guitars with it and I have really liked the sound of all of them. They have a good "zing" when you strum them.

I have braced all of mine (and for that matter all my guitars) with Adirondack.

I have not built with it yet, but I have one top on the bench at the moment so I don't have any flowery comments either. A couple of observations though ...

I cut up some brace wood one day. It is lighter than Addy and I did some deflection testing on it too. It is not quite as stiff (at least the pieces I checked according to the deflection) They were not very scientific tests and I can't seem to but my hands on the numbers at the moment but I seem to remember about 10% less in weight and about 10% more deflection. What does it all mean??? I dunno as I am not sure how to directly corelate any of that with "flowery" tonal descriptions.

So I will try it, see if I like it, or more importantly if players like it and go from there.

hi jimmie,

i finished a carpathian classical (fine grade top from steve at colonial) and at first it was a little subdued, and i was a bit disappointed, so i left in the corner of the room for a few weeks, then one day i was bored, picked it up again, and WOW, what a difference, i think the top must have been pretty fresh and a few weeks of low humidity has snapped it into shape.... but now its one of my favorite guitars, very powerful, articulated sound, if played gently it also has a great sensitive side, nice tops and nice price..... me gusta!!
